Council Meeting: May 19, 2015

Council Meeting: May 19, 2015

Got back from a wonderful (and somewhat wet) weekend of camping, so my apologies for the lateness of getting out this week’s blog post. We actually have a fairly light agenda for tomorrow’s meeting, which was a nice gift that allowed me to enjoy the weekend in the woods! Here’s a look at what’s on the proposed agenda for Tuesday’s meeting:

Community Services Advisory Board Recommendation: FCSS Spring Grants: On behalf of the Community Services Advisory Board, I will be bringing forward the follow recommendations:

  • The St. Albert 50+ Club: $1150 to develop a Seniors Housing Options Brochure
  • STAR Literacy: $2500 to develop a St. Albert Information and Resource Directory for families

Time Extension Request: Administration is requesting that deadline extensions for the following reports be approved:

  • Dig In Horticulinary Festival Report – by August 30, 2015
  • Business Incubation Strategy Terms of Reference – to Q4
  • St. Albert Trail Boudreau Road/Giroux Road Corridor Safety Review – Final Report – by August 17, 2015
  • Final Standard Development Agreement Template by July 6, 2015

Cancellation of June 11, 2015 Strategic Planning & Priorities SessionDue to Councillor availability it is being recommended that that the Strategic Planning and Priorities session be rescheduled.

Lt. Governor’s Distinguished Young Artists AwardsThe legacy given to the community from the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta’s Distinguished Artists Awards supports development of young artists in the St. Albert community by providing financial assistance for education and professional development and travel to showcase events and/or conferences. In accordance with City Policy C-CS-10, Lieutenant Governor Distinguished Young Artists Program, this report provides recommendations from a sub-committee of the St. Albert Cultivates the Arts Society for the 2015 intake of applications for the Lieutenant Governor Distinguished Young Artists Program.

Council Policy C-CS-14, FCSS Operating Grant ProgramThe purpose of this report is for Council to establish Governance direction for the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Operating Grant(s). While the City has for decades provided FCSS operating grants to local organizations there is currently no policy that provides a governance framework or guidelines around the distribution of these funds. The proposed policy will provide governance regarding the process and criteria for approval of FCSS Operating Grants.

Aerial Fire Truck Replacement FundingThe purpose of this report is to seek Council’s approval on the funding to replace the aerial fire truck, the replacement of which was approved in a previous Council motion.

Council Motions:

FCM Board of Directors: For the past year, I have served on several committees of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities. This June I will be seeking a spot on the Board of Directors. One of the requirements of running is a motion endorsing one’s candidacy from their local Council. Councillors MacKay and Heron have both kindly offered to bring forward the motion, I will let them duke it out tomorrow to see who gets to!

Council will also be discussing a land matter and a negotiating matter (School Site Allocation Committee) in camera. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments regarding this week’s agenda. Have a great week!
